Christmas Socialising with friends and colleagues

On Tuesday December 16th Christine came over and we had lunch together at Café Culture. It was lovely to see her and hear all her news. Her life is much busier than mine as she looks after her 2 grandsons for her daughter and son in law, who are both hospital doctors; her daughter is a paediatric registrar, who continues to train but her husband is now a consultant in geriatric medicine at Doncaster Hospital.

On Thursday December 18th my beloved and I went to the Acorn Christmas dinner, which as usual was very good. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, roast turkey with all the trimmings and roast potatoes and sprouts followed by a mince pie. Of course we had party hats and crackers and the usual Christmas quiz. It was fun and my beloved managed to stay for a couple of hours before we had to leave. I also had the opportunity to go to the Labour Party Christmas social later that evening but I decided it would be too much after the earlier meal and I was also going out for another Christmas meal the following day! All these socials come at the same time.

It was lovely to join my former colleagues at the surgery for the staff Christmas meal. We went to the Pavilions at the Yorkshire Show Ground and were all greeted with a small glass of white wine. There were a large number of Christmas parties going on at the same time so they had a disco and the opportunity to dance after the meal. There was also a prize for the most Christmassy costume and a lucky dip prize of a bottle of champagne after the meal. It was very loud and difficult to talk with each other. However it was good to see some of my friends who could come. The food was very good. There was a cold platter selection of meats and a vegetarian option for starters all on a revolving centre of the table. We then had turkey escallop with vegetables and a vegetarian option for our main course. The sweet was rather good, I thought, 3 mini puddings, a meringue with strawberry ice cream, a chocolate mousse in a chocolate case and a lemon cheesecake. A number of our group including our doctor and his wife had a dance after the meal. I just relaxed and tried to have a chat with former colleagues. I hope to catch up with some of my other former colleagues in the coming year.
